Dear colleagues,
On July 1 this year we marked the 100th Anniversary of the Chinese Exclusion Act. This racist legislation of the Canadian parliament left an enduring mark on Chinese-Canadian demography and social standing, and remained in law for almost a quarter century. Read my blog post here to learn more.
I’d also like to share updates and new developments below. Please don’t forget to schedule your well-deserved vacation as early as possible this year, and make sure to use your entitlement by year-end.
Welcome new NP Tian Qiu!
As some of you may know our NP, Ivy Wong, has gone on maternity leave. In her place currently is Tian Qiu who will be looking after Finch and McNicoll. Later on, Tian will be attending to McNicoll as the full-time NP.
Please welcome Tian to the team and I’m sure we will see him around more often!
Congratulations John!
John Tcherkezian, Yee Hong’s Occupational Health and Safety Manager, is this year’s CHAIR Leadership Award recipient!
This award recognizes John’s outstanding work and leadership in reducing acquired infections using engineered infection prevention technologies.
This initiative is a great enhancement to Yee Hong’s vigilant infection prevent and control measures to keep seniors, families and staff safe.
Thank you John for your continued dedication to health and safety, and congratulations again!

“Story of My Life”
Yee Hong is proud to share “Story of My Life” videos with the support of New Horizons Seniors Project. Nine seniors from different backgrounds told us about what matters to them, and a lifetime of experiences. Follow the link to learn more about Ho Che Kun, a Garden Terrace resident who creates beauty and joy with her works.
Other videos in the series are available in Yee Hong’s online Care-Learning catalogue. Yee Hong seniors who contributed to our video series describe active living, learning and community involvement while in their golden years. “Story of My Life” clarifies the myths about aging for better understanding.
